Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cans (28 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until it’s soft and translucent.
- Toss in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, until fragrant.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, then mix in the sugar, basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat and let it cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Serve over your favorite spaghetti and garnish with fresh basil leaves.
Notes
Opt for quality canned tomatoes like San Marzano for authenticity. For a deeper flavor, let the sauce simmer longer and consider adding a splash of red wine.
