Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Buttermilk (or milk with lemon juice as a substitute)
- 1 cup Flour (gluten-free flour works too if needed)
- 1 tbsp Paprika (smoked for an extra kick)
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- 0.5 tsp Cayenne Pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Pepper
- 2 medium Sweet Onions (like Vidalia)
- Cooking Spray/Oil (for that crispy finish)
Instructions
- Prep the onions: Begin by peeling the sweet onions and cutting them into bloom shapes.
- Soak: Submerge the onion petals in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
- Mix the coating: Whisk together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Coat the onions: Remove the onions from buttermilk and dredge each bloom in the flour mixture.
