Description
A hearty, comfort food dish with tender ground beef patties simmered in a rich gravy, perfect for weeknight dinners or cozy Sunday lunches.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 1 onion (finely diced; plus another sliced for the gravy)
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 3 tbsp butter (salted or unsalted)
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth (low sodium preferred)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper until combined. Form mixture into 6-8 oval-shaped patties.
- Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sliced onions and butter. Sauté until onions are soft. Stir in flour and cook for an additional two minutes.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth and cream, stirring until smooth.
- Place the browned patties back into the gravy, ensuring they are well-coated.
- Cover the skillet tightly and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a healthier option, consider using gluten-free breadcrumbs or a plant-based ground meat substitute.
