  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: None

Description

A hearty, comfort food dish with tender ground beef patties simmered in a rich gravy, perfect for weeknight dinners or cozy Sunday lunches.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 1 onion (finely diced; plus another sliced for the gravy)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 3 tbsp butter (salted or unsalted)
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper until combined. Form mixture into 6-8 oval-shaped patties.
  2. Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and butter. Sauté until onions are soft. Stir in flour and cook for an additional two minutes.
  4. Gradually whisk in beef broth and cream, stirring until smooth.
  5. Place the browned patties back into the gravy, ensuring they are well-coated.
  6. Cover the skillet tightly and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a healthier option, consider using gluten-free breadcrumbs or a plant-based ground meat substitute.
