  • Total Time: 75 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Carnivore

Description

A comforting classic featuring tender hamburger steaks in a rich gravy, perfect for family gatherings and winter nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (Plain or seasoned)
  • 1 Egg (Beaten)
  • 1 Onion (Finely diced)
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 3 tbsp Butter (Salted or unsalted)
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour (For thickening gravy)
  • 2 cups Beef broth (Low sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 Onion (Sliced)
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, gently combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Shape the Patties: Form the mixture into 6–8 oval-shaped patties. Set aside.
  3. Brown the Patties: In an oven-safe skillet over medium heat, brown the patties for about 3–4 minutes on each side until golden. Remove from skillet.
  4. Create the Gravy Base: In the same skillet, melt the butter and sauté sliced onions until soft. Whisk in the flour, stirring for about 2 minutes before adding the beef broth and cream.
  5. Nestle the Patties in Gravy: Return patties to the skillet, ensuring they are coated in gravy. Cover and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  6. Serve: Remove from the oven and let rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, try using low-fat cream or gluten-free breadcrumbs. You can freeze patties ahead of time for quicker meals later.
