Description

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons ice water
  • 4 to 5 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for the filling)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  3. Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the sugar.
  5. Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until a dough forms.
  6. Roll out the dough and fit it into a tart pan.
  7. Toss the apple slices with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar until well coated.
  8. Arrange the apple mixture inside the crust.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the apples are tender and the crust is golden.
  10. Brush the crust with a beaten egg right before serving.

Notes

Serve warm, lightly dusted with powdered sugar or with vanilla ice cream. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days.
