- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 to 2 tablespoons ice water
- 4 to 5 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 cup sugar (for the filling)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the sugar.
- Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until a dough forms.
- Roll out the dough and fit it into a tart pan.
- Toss the apple slices with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar until well coated.
- Arrange the apple mixture inside the crust.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until the apples are tender and the crust is golden.
- Brush the crust with a beaten egg right before serving.
Notes
Serve warm, lightly dusted with powdered sugar or with vanilla ice cream. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days.
