Description
Crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, these baked mozzarella sticks are a delightful snack perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- Low-moisture, part-skim mozzarella cheese sticks
- All-purpose flour
- 2–3 large eggs, lightly beaten
- Panko breadcrumbs
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Dried oregano
- Dried basil
- Salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
- Dipping sauce (marinara, ranch, honey mustard, BBQ sauce)
Instructions
- Freeze the cheese: Start by unwrapping all the mozzarella sticks and laying them out on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for at least 30-60 minutes until they are firm.
- Prepare the breading stations: Set up three shallow dishes. In the first dish, add all-purpose flour seasoned with a pinch of salt and pepper. In the second dish, whisk together the eggs with a tablespoon of water or milk. In the third, mix panko breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
- Coat the sticks: Remove the chilled mozzarella sticks from the freezer. Dredge each stick in the flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the egg wash, allowing the excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the seasoned breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure an even coating. Place the coated sticks back on the baking sheet.
- Double coat for extra crispiness: For an added crunch, repeat the egg wash and breadcrumb steps for each stick.
- Refreeze extras: Place the double-breaded mozzarella sticks back into the freezer for at least 2 hours or until solid.
- Preheat and bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a clean baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Arrange the frozen, breaded mozzarella sticks in a single layer, making sure they don’t touch.
- Bake and serve: Bake for 8-12 minutes, closely monitoring until they are golden brown and the cheese is starting to ooze out. Transfer to a serving plate and enjoy hot with your favorite dipping sauces!
Notes
