Description

Indulge in warm, gooey cinnamon rolls with rich buttery filling and luscious cream cheese icing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 cups (520g-650g) all-purpose flour, spoon and leveled
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 package) instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (180mL) warm water
  • 1/2 cup (120mL) whole milk
  • 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter, sliced
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 6 tablespoons (85g) unsalted butter, very soft
  • 3/4 cup (150g) packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 4 oz (115g) full-fat block cream cheese
  • 5 tablespoons (70g) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups (195g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine 3 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Whisk to mix well and set aside.
  2. Combine water, milk, and sliced butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat until the butter melts and the mixture feels warm but not hot.
  3. Whisk the egg into this warm mixture until combined.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the flour mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until a thick, sticky dough forms.
  5. Gradually add 1 cup of flour to bring the dough together into a ball.
  6. Knead the dough on a floured surface, adding flour as necessary to keep it from sticking until smooth and elastic.
  7. Cover and let sit for 20 minutes to relax the gluten.
  8. Roll the dough into a 14×10 inch rectangle.
  9. Spread softened butter on the dough, then sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon evenly on top.
  10. Roll it up tightly from the long side, then cut into 12 equal rolls.
  11. Arrange in a 9×13 inch baking dish, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes.
  12. Preheat your oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  13. While baking, prepare the icing by blending cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  14. Spread the icing over warm rolls and serve.

Notes

For added variety, try adding nuts, raisins, or cocoa for a twist on the classic recipe.
