  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Omnivore

Description

A comforting Southern classic, biscuits and gravy features flaky biscuits topped with rich sausage gravy, perfect for brunch or late-night snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 pound sausage (spicy or mild)
  • 2 cups milk (for gravy)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually stir in the milk until just combined.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it gently. Roll it out and use a biscuit cutter to create rounds. Place them on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. While the biscuits are baking, brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat.
  7. Once browned, stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Slowly add the milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve the hot sausage gravy over the warm biscuits.

Notes

For a delicious presentation, garnish with chopped parsley or chives. Serve with scrambled eggs or hash browns.
