- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 pound sausage (spicy or mild)
- 2 cups milk (for gravy)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually stir in the milk until just combined.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it gently. Roll it out and use a biscuit cutter to create rounds. Place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the biscuits are baking, brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat.
- Once browned, stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Slowly add the milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the hot sausage gravy over the warm biscuits.
Notes
For a delicious presentation, garnish with chopped parsley or chives. Serve with scrambled eggs or hash browns.
