Description
A delightful twist on a classic snack, these bite-sized blooming onions feature a crispy exterior and tender onion inside, making them perfect for parties or family dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large onion
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 2 cups breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Onion: Cut the onion into thin petals, ensuring you don’t cut all the way through the root.
- Create Coatings: In a bowl, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk.
- Coat the Onion: Dip the onion in the flour mixture, then in the egg mixture, and coat it thoroughly in breadcrumbs.
- Fry Them Up: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Carefully place the coated onion in the hot oil and fry until golden and crispy, around 8–10 minutes.
- Drain: Once fried, drain the onion on paper towels to eliminate excess oil.
- Serve: Enjoy these delicious treats hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
