Ingredients

- 2 cups of milk (or a dairy-free alternative)
- 2 cups of water
- 2 tablespoons of loose black tea or 2 tea bags
- 2–3 tablespoons of sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4–5 crushed cardamom pods
- 4–5 whole cloves
- 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Combine the water, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, and sliced ginger in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Lower the heat and add the black tea and sugar. Simmer for about 5 minutes to develop the flavors.
- Pour in the milk and bring the chai back to a simmer—no need for boiling here!
- Strain the chai into cups, add vanilla extract if desired, and enjoy your warm drink.
Notes
Serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon or whipped cream for an elevated experience. Pair with buttery shortbread or spiced cake.
