Chocolate Chip Cinnamon Rolls

  • Total Time: 85 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A delightful fusion of sweet and gooey with rich chocolate and warm cinnamon, perfect for breakfast or any special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup crushed chocolate cookies (Oreos work well)
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for icing)
  • Extra cookie crumbles for topping

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the warm milk, active dry yeast, and sugar. Allow it to sit for around 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture along with the melted butter and beaten egg. Stir until a dough begins to form.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for an hour.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangular shape. Evenly spread the mix of cinnamon, crushed chocolate cookies, and mini chocolate chips over it.
  6. Starting from one end, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut it into even pieces and place them in a baking dish.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Keep an eye on them!
  8. While baking, prepare the icing by blending cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth.
  9. Once the rolls are cool, drizzle them with cream cheese icing and sprinkle on the extra cookie crumbles.

Notes

These rolls are best enjoyed fresh from the oven, but they can also be paired with whipped cream, fresh fruit, or nuts for added texture.
