- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 cup dark chocolate (chocolate bars or chips)
Instructions
- Combine warm milk and sugar in a bowl, then sprinkle the yeast on top. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir until combined.
- Cut cold butter into small cubes and mix into the dough until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Knead dough on a floured surface until smooth, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for one hour.
- Roll out dough into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
- Place chocolate pieces in the center of the dough and fold the sides over to encase the chocolate.
- Roll dough into a log and cut into triangles.
- Starting from the base of each triangle, roll it towards the tip to shape the croissants.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with egg wash and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
