Description

Delicious homemade chocolate croissants with buttery layers and rich chocolate filling, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 cup dark chocolate (chocolate bars or chips)

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk and sugar in a bowl, then sprinkle the yeast on top. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir until combined.
  3. Cut cold butter into small cubes and mix into the dough until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Knead dough on a floured surface until smooth, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for one hour.
  5. Roll out dough into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
  6. Place chocolate pieces in the center of the dough and fold the sides over to encase the chocolate.
  7. Roll dough into a log and cut into triangles.
  8. Starting from the base of each triangle, roll it towards the tip to shape the croissants.
  9. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with egg wash and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Enjoy your homemade pain au chocolat!

Notes

Serve warm with powdered sugar and fresh fruit. Consider pairing with coffee or hot chocolate.
