Description

Delightful homemade soft pretzels coated in cinnamon sugar, perfect for snacks, movie nights, or brunch.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (between 100°F to 110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water with active dry yeast and stir in sugar. Let sit until foamy.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, mix flour with salt.
  3. Mix the dough: Pour yeast mixture and melted butter into flour. Combine until dough starts to form.
  4. Knead: Place dough on a floured surface and knead for 5 to 7 minutes.
  5. Rise: Put dough in an oiled bowl, cover and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Shape: Divide dough into 8 pieces, roll into ropes, and twist into pretzel shapes.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and boil water with baking soda.
  8. Boil: Drop each pretzel in boiling water for 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
  9. Brush tops with egg wash and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  10. Bake: Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Cool before serving.

Notes

Serve with hot chocolate or caramel dip. Best eaten within 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
