Description

Delightfully warm and doughy soft pretzels dusted with a sweet cinnamon sugar blend, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, pour 1 cup of warm water and sprinkle in the yeast. Stir in 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until dissolved, then let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until it’s frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour blend along with the melted butter. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise in a warm area for 1 to 1.5 hours until it doubles in size.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough to release air, then divide into 8 equal portions.
  7. Roll each piece into an 18-inch long rope and shape into a pretzel.
  8. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Boil 10 cups of water in a large pot. Add 1/4 cup of baking soda and stir.
  10. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  11. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar.
  12. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Best served warm with a side of cream cheese frosting for dipping or enjoy fresh out of the oven.
