Description
Delightfully warm and doughy soft pretzels dusted with a sweet cinnamon sugar blend, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- In a small bowl, pour 1 cup of warm water and sprinkle in the yeast. Stir in 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until dissolved, then let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until it’s frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the flour blend along with the melted butter. Stir until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise in a warm area for 1 to 1.5 hours until it doubles in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough to release air, then divide into 8 equal portions.
- Roll each piece into an 18-inch long rope and shape into a pretzel.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Boil 10 cups of water in a large pot. Add 1/4 cup of baking soda and stir.
- Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
Best served warm with a side of cream cheese frosting for dipping or enjoy fresh out of the oven.
