Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Gel food coloring (in pink and blue)
  • Cotton candy flavoring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Split dough into two sections. Add pink gel food coloring to one and blue to the other.
  7. Take pieces from both colored doughs and press them together to form cookie balls.
  8. Place the cookie balls on a lined baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

To keep cookies fresh, store in an airtight container at room temperature for a week. For chewier cookies, refrigerate for a few hours before serving.
