- ½ teaspoon baking powder

- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- ¼ cup buttermilk (or substitute with milk mixed with 1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar)
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Gel food coloring (in pink and blue)
- Cotton candy flavoring (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Split dough into two sections. Add pink gel food coloring to one and blue to the other.
- Take pieces from both colored doughs and press them together to form cookie balls.
- Place the cookie balls on a lined baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
To keep cookies fresh, store in an airtight container at room temperature for a week. For chewier cookies, refrigerate for a few hours before serving.
