Description

A fun and creative twist on the classic shepherd’s pie, perfect for Halloween or themed gatherings, featuring a rich meat filling and spooky mashed potato decorations.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Black olives (for decoration)
  • Green food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground meat until browned. Drain the excess fat.
  3. Add the onions, carrots, celery, and garlic to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are softened.
  4. Stir in the peas, beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Spread the meat mixture in the bottom of a baking dish.
  6. Top with the mashed potatoes, smoothing out the top.
  7. Use a fork to create spooky designs in the potatoes.
  8. If desired, add black olives for eyes.
  9. Optional: Mix green food coloring into the mashed potatoes for a creepy effect.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving.
