  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegan

Description

A delightful twist to plant-based cuisine, transforming firm tofu into a crunchy, flavor-packed dish with a fabulous balance of sweet and savory.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 400 grams firm tofu
  • 4 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for vegan option)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • Vegetable oil for frying (approximately 1 cup)

Instructions

  1. Drain the firm tofu and press it for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Slice the pressed tofu into uniform bite-sized cubes.
  3. In a small bowl, mix honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil to create the sauce.
  4. Toss each tofu cube in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the tofu cubes until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Transfer fried tofu to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
  7. Pour the sauce into the skillet and simmer for about a minute before tossing in the crispy tofu to coat evenly.

Notes

Consider serving over jasmine rice or quinoa; garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
