Description
A delightful twist to plant-based cuisine, transforming firm tofu into a crunchy, flavor-packed dish with a fabulous balance of sweet and savory.
Ingredients
Scale
- 400 grams firm tofu
- 4 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for vegan option)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- Vegetable oil for frying (approximately 1 cup)
Instructions
- Drain the firm tofu and press it for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Slice the pressed tofu into uniform bite-sized cubes.
- In a small bowl, mix honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil to create the sauce.
- Toss each tofu cube in cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the tofu cubes until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Transfer fried tofu to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
- Pour the sauce into the skillet and simmer for about a minute before tossing in the crispy tofu to coat evenly.
Notes
Consider serving over jasmine rice or quinoa; garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
