Ingredients

  • 1 block Extra-Firm Tofu (about 1416 ounces)
  • ½ cup Cornstarch
  • ¼ cup Low-Sodium Soy Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Rice Vinegar
  • ¼ cup Honey (or maple syrup for a vegan version)
  • 45 cloves Minced Garlic
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Ginger (grated)
  • ½ teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame Oil
  • ½ cup Cooking Oil (for frying)
  • Sesame Seeds (for garnish)
  • Green Onions (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu by wrapping it in paper towels and placing a weight on top for 30 minutes to an hour.
  2. Prepare the tofu by cutting it into bite-sized cubes.
  3. Coat the tofu cubes in cornstarch until lightly covered on all sides.
  4. Make the sauce by whisking together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
  5. Fry the tofu in hot oil for 5-7 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
  6. Add the honey garlic sauce to the skillet with the tofu and let it simmer until slightly thickened.
  7. Coat the tofu in the sauce, tossing gently.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Notes

For maximum crispiness, press the tofu thoroughly. Double-coat in cornstarch for extra crunch.
