- 1 block Extra-Firm Tofu (about 14–16 ounces)
- ½ cup Cornstarch
- ¼ cup Low-Sodium Soy Sauce
- 2 tablespoons Rice Vinegar
- ¼ cup Honey (or maple syrup for a vegan version)
- 4–5 cloves Minced Garlic
- 1 tablespoon Fresh Ginger (grated)
- ½ teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Sesame Oil
- ½ cup Cooking Oil (for frying)
- Sesame Seeds (for garnish)
- Green Onions (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Press the tofu by wrapping it in paper towels and placing a weight on top for 30 minutes to an hour.
- Prepare the tofu by cutting it into bite-sized cubes.
- Coat the tofu cubes in cornstarch until lightly covered on all sides.
- Make the sauce by whisking together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
- Fry the tofu in hot oil for 5-7 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
- Add the honey garlic sauce to the skillet with the tofu and let it simmer until slightly thickened.
- Coat the tofu in the sauce, tossing gently.
- Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
Notes
For maximum crispiness, press the tofu thoroughly. Double-coat in cornstarch for extra crunch.
