Description
A comforting classic that combines tender, buttery potatoes with savory sautéed onions, enveloped in a flaky pie crust.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds of potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 cup of milk
- 4 tablespoons of butter
- 1/2 cup of grated cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 onion, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Boil the potatoes in a pot of salted water until tender, usually about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return them to the pot.
- Add in the milk, butter, cheese, salt, and pepper. Mash everything together until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency.
- Sauté the chopped onion in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
- Assemble by spreading half of the mashed potato mixture in the bottom of the pie crust, followed by the sautéed onions, and then the remaining potato mixture on top.
- Bake in your preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is beautifully golden.
- Allow the pie to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your hearty meal!
Notes
For best results, choose starchy potatoes like Russets for a creamier texture. Feel free to customize the pie with different cheeses or additional ingredients like spinach or bacon.
