- 1 1/2 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cubed
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 teaspoons garam masala, divided
- 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- 1 large yellow onion, grated
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon garlic, grated
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 cup chicken broth (or water if not available)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the cubed chicken with salt, pepper, chili powder, turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, paprika, and 1 teaspoon of garam masala. Add the Greek yogurt and mix well to coat. Allow to marinate for at least 10 minutes.
- In a large pan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the grated onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-5 minutes. Stir in the remaining teaspoon of garam masala and cook until fragrant—around 1 minute.
- Add the marinated chicken to the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until browned and cooked through.
- Incorporate the grated ginger and garlic, mixing well with the chicken.
- Pour in the tomato sauce, reducing the heat to low, and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Add the chicken broth (or water) and heavy cream, continuing to simmer for another 5 minutes to meld the flavors.
- Finish by stirring in the last 2 tablespoons of butter, adjusting seasoning as needed.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
Notes
Serve with basmati rice or naan. Consider adding steamed vegetables for balance.
