Description
A soft, fluffy loaf perfect for sandwiches or toasted with butter and jam.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500 g bread flour (3¾ cup)
- 40 g sugar (3 tbsp)
- 1½ tsps instant yeast
- 225 g cold water (a little less than 1 cup)
- 115 g cold milk (½ cup)
- 9 g sea salt (1½ tsp)
- 25 g unsalted butter (1¾ tbsp)
- Butter for coating the pan and brushing the bread
- Flour for coating the pan
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, sugar, and instant yeast.
- Gradually add in the cold water and cold milk, mixing until a dough forms.
- Sprinkle the sea salt over the dough, then add the softened butter. Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, and cover it with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1-2 hours).
- Once risen, punch down the dough and transfer it to a floured surface. Shape it into a loaf.
- Place the shaped loaf in a greased pan and cover it to rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush the loaf with melted butter and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
Notes
For a dairy-free version, substitute whole milk with almond or oat milk. Allow cooled bread to wrap tightly for storage.
