Description

A soft and fluffy milk bread that is perfect for breakfast or sandwiches, combining simplicity with heartiness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups milk (warmed)
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk until slightly warm to the touch but not hot.
  2. Sprinkle the yeast and sugar over the warm milk and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt; create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture. Add melted butter if using.
  4. Mix until a dough forms and knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough gently, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven, let cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, substitute with almond milk or oat milk. Store in an airtight container or freeze for longer storage.
