Ingredients

- 2 cups milk (warmed)
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional)
Instructions
- Warm the milk until slightly warm to the touch but not hot.
- Sprinkle the yeast and sugar over the warm milk and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt; create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture. Add melted butter if using.
- Mix until a dough forms and knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough gently, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven, let cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a dairy-free version, substitute with almond milk or oat milk. Store in an airtight container or freeze for longer storage.
