Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and instant yeast.
  2. Pour in the warm water, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and let it rise at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours, or until it bubbles and doubles in size.
  4. Lightly flour a work surface and turn the dough out onto it. Gently shape it into a ball.
  5. Place the dough on a piece of parchment paper, covering it with a towel, and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a Dutch oven inside to heat.
  7. When preheated, carefully remove the Dutch oven, and lower the dough (with parchment) into it. Cover and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
  9. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Store leftover bread at room temperature in a breadbox or wrapped in a clean kitchen towel for up to three days. For longer storage, freeze sliced bread wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and foil.
