Ingredients

- 2 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 cup olive oil, plus more for drizzling
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon freshly chopped rosemary (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt together, creating a well in the center. Pour in the yeast mixture along with 1/2 cup of olive oil. Stir until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for several minutes or allow it to rise covered in the bowl for about an hour.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Spread the dough on a greased baking sheet, gently dimpling the surface with your fingers. Brush on more olive oil and sprinkle with minced garlic, Parmesan, and rosemary if using.
- Allow the dough to rise for another 20 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Let the focaccia cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.
Notes
For different flavor variations, try sun-dried tomatoes, diced jalapeños, or mixed cheeses.
