Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup olive oil, plus more for drizzling
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon freshly chopped rosemary (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt together, creating a well in the center. Pour in the yeast mixture along with 1/2 cup of olive oil. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for several minutes or allow it to rise covered in the bowl for about an hour.
  4. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. Spread the dough on a greased baking sheet, gently dimpling the surface with your fingers. Brush on more olive oil and sprinkle with minced garlic, Parmesan, and rosemary if using.
  6. Allow the dough to rise for another 20 minutes.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let the focaccia cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.
