Description

A sumptuous Italian dish of tender flank steak rolled with a savory filling of bread crumbs, cheese, and parsley, baked in rich tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup cheese (Parmesan or mozzarella)
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lay the flank steak flat on a cutting board and season it generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Combine the bread crumbs, cheese, parsley, minced garlic, and a drizzle of olive oil in a mixing bowl. Mix well.
  4. Spread this mixture evenly over the steak, then roll it up tightly from one end to the other.
  5. Secure the roll with kitchen twine or toothpicks to hold everything together.
  6. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the roll on all sides until browned.
  7. Transfer the roll to a baking dish.
  8. Pour the tomato sauce over the top, ensuring it covers the roll completely.
  9. Cover the dish with foil and bake for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  10. Remove from the oven, let it rest for a few minutes before slicing, and serve with extra sauce drizzled on top.

Notes

For a lighter version, use low-fat cheese or whole-grain bread crumbs. Consider using various cheeses or adding vegetables for unique flavors.
