Description
A comforting and nostalgic bread pudding made from leftover bread, perfect for family gatherings or cozy brunches.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups cubed white bread (approximately 8 slices, cut into 1-inch pieces)
- 2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
- 2 cups milk
- ¼ cup raisins
- ¼ cup butter (softened)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ⅓ cup heavy whipping cream
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the cubed white bread and raisins.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk and softened butter until the butter melts completely. Pour this mixture over the bread cubes, allowing them to soak for about 10 minutes.
- Once soaked, add the granulated sugar, beaten eggs, vanilla extract, and ground nutmeg to the mixture and stir until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture into a greased casserole dish that holds at least 1½ quarts.
- Bake in your preheated oven for approximately 40-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center feels firm. To test for doneness, insert a knife into the center; if it comes out clean, it’s ready.
- For the caramel sauce, mix equal parts of butter and sugars in another saucepan over medium heat, stirring continuously until it thickens and starts boiling (about 5-8 minutes).
Notes
Serve warm with caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream, or whipped cream. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for longer preservation.
