Description

A guilt-free version of classic churros that are baked, not fried, making them a delightful treat for all ages.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp melted coconut oil
  • Cinnamon sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, almond flour, coconut sugar, baking powder, and salt, stirring until mixed well.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the applesauce, almond milk, vanilla extract, and melted coconut oil until well mixed.
  4. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined—don’t overmix!
  5. Using a small cookie scoop, drop the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly apart.
  6. Bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the churro bites are golden and cooked through.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before rolling each bite in cinnamon sugar for an irresistible finish!

Notes

For a nut-free version, swap almond flour for oat flour, and replace coconut sugar with brown sugar for a different flavor profile. Don’t over-bake to ensure they stay soft.
