A comforting and easy recipe for soft and fluffy homemade Amish white bread, perfect for sandwiches or simply slathered with butter.
Ingredients

- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Combine the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil to the flour, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 6-8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Transfer the dough to a greased bowl and cover with a cloth. Let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Punch down the risen dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover again and let rise for another 30-40 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the loaf is golden brown.
- Allow to cool before slicing.
Notes
Knead well for gluten development and ensure water temperature is around 110°F. Experiment with flavors by adding herbs or cheese.
