Description
Learn how to make delicious homemade baguettes with a crispy crust and soft, chewy interior using just four simple ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour for chewier texture)
- 1 ½ cups warm water (around 110°F/43°C)
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast (or instant yeast)
- 2 teaspoons salt
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, water, yeast, and salt until a rough dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Lightly oil a bowl, place the dough inside, and cover with a damp cloth. Allow it to rise for 1-2 hours, until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Once risen, punch the dough down gently and shape into baguettes.
- Place the shaped loaves onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Using a sharp knife, make a few diagonal slashes on the tops of the baguettes for steam release.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Allow the baguettes to cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
Store baguettes in a paper bag at room temperature or wrap tightly and freeze for longer storage. Reheat in the oven to regain freshness.
