Description
Experience the joy of baking with homemade croissants that are flaky, buttery, and delicious. A delightful French pastry perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1 1/4 cups whole milk (warm)
- 1 cup unsalted butter (cold)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a large bowl.
- Warm the milk until lukewarm, then mix it into the dry ingredients until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it’s smooth, then let it rise for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- While the dough rises, roll out the cold butter between two sheets of parchment paper until you have a rectangle.
- Roll the risen dough into a larger rectangle and position the butter in the center.
- Fold the dough over the butter, sealing the edges to encase it completely.
- Roll out the dough, folding it over itself, and chilling it in between each fold. Repeat this process several times to develop layers.
- Cut the dough into triangles and roll them from the base to the tip to shape them into crescents.
- Allow the formed croissants to rise for another hour until fluffy.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Brush the tops with egg wash and bake for 15-20 minutes, until they’re golden brown and aromatic.
Notes
