Description

A comforting homemade green bean casserole with fresh green beans, savory mushrooms, creamy Parmesan sauce, and crispy fried shallots.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup fried shallots
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Blanch the green beans in boiling water for about 5 minutes, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until softened.
  4. Stir in the sliced mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture and turn golden brown.
  5. Pour in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  6. Add in the grated Parmesan cheese, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked green beans with the creamy mushroom sauce.
  8. Transfer this mixture to a greased baking dish.
  9. Top with crispy fried shallots.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the top is bubbly and golden.
  11. Serve warm as a delicious side dish.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of white wine while cooking the mushrooms or a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes for some heat. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
