- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (like Pepper Jack or Cheddar)
- 1/2 cup salsa verde
- 1/4 cup cream cheese
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the mixture is frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture into this bowl.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Allow the dough to rise in a warm place for 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
- In a large pot, combine the baking soda with water and bring it to a boil.
- Divide the dough into pieces, shape them into pretzels, and dip each one into the boiling baking soda solution for about 30 seconds.
- Place the pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush them with the egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for approximately 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown.
- For the dipping sauce, combine the shredded cheese, salsa verde, and cream cheese in a saucepan over low heat. Stir until melted and smooth.
- Serve your pretzels warm with the delicious dipping sauce.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze wrapped for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven to restore softness.
