  • Yield: 12 pretzels 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Indulge in the warmth of homemade soft buttery pretzels paired with a zesty salsa verde cheese dipping sauce, perfect for game nights or cozy gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt (for topping)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (like Pepper Jack or Cheddar)
  • 1/2 cup salsa verde
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the mixture is frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture into this bowl.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place for 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  6. In a large pot, combine the baking soda with water and bring it to a boil.
  7. Divide the dough into pieces, shape them into pretzels, and dip each one into the boiling baking soda solution for about 30 seconds.
  8. Place the pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush them with the egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  9. Bake for approximately 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  10. For the dipping sauce, combine the shredded cheese, salsa verde, and cream cheese in a saucepan over low heat. Stir until melted and smooth.
  11. Serve your pretzels warm with the delicious dipping sauce.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze wrapped for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven to restore softness.
