- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 1 pound ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
- 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup red wine (optional)
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery, sautéing until softened—about 5-7 minutes.
- Incorporate the ground meat, breaking it apart, and cook until browned.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine (if using).
- Pour in the beef broth and oregano, then season with salt and pepper.
- Reduce the heat and let simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a bay leaf or a splash of heavy cream at the end. Can be made in advance for even better taste.
