  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Optional Vegetarian

Description

A rich and savory Bolognese sauce perfect for pasta or as a filling for lasagna.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup red wine (optional)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery, sautéing until softened—about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Incorporate the ground meat, breaking it apart, and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine (if using).
  5. Pour in the beef broth and oregano, then season with salt and pepper.
  6. Reduce the heat and let simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a bay leaf or a splash of heavy cream at the end. Can be made in advance for even better taste.
