Description
A comforting and creamy Indian Butter Chicken with a rich tomato-based sauce and a blend of spices, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1.5 lb chicken thighs, cut into pieces
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup tomato puree
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1.5 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the yogurt, lemon juice, turmeric powder, garam masala, chili powder, ground cumin, garlic, ginger, and salt. Add the chicken pieces, ensuring they are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
- In a large pan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken pieces (discard excess marinade) and sauté until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, add another tablespoon of butter. Pour in the tomato puree and simmer for about 5 minutes. Stir in the heavy cream, sugar, and remaining salt.
- Return the cooked chicken to the sauce, stirring to coat. Let it simmer for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Serve hot with rice, naan, or your favorite accompaniment.
Notes
For best results, marinate chicken overnight. Adjust sugar to taste and spice level according to preference.
