Description
A comforting and flavorful casserole inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak, keeping carbs in check while delivering on taste.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 fat ratio preferred)
- 1 large onion (diced)
- 2 large bell peppers (green/red/mixed, diced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 8 oz provolone cheese (sliced)
- 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil.
- Add the diced onion and bell peppers. Cook for about 5-6 minutes until softened and fragrant.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, ensuring it doesn’t burn.
- Add in the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper, cooking for 7-8 minutes until browned and no pink remains. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Mix in the Worcestershire sauce, allowing it to coat the meat mixture for depth of flavor.
- Reduce heat to low; stir in the softened cream cheese until completely melted and creamy.
- Transfer the mixture to your prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Layer the torn provolone pieces over the beef, followed by the shredded mozzarella.
- Bake for 22-25 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden on top. Loosely cover with foil if it browns too quickly.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving to help meld the flavors together.
