Description
A comforting low-carb twist on the classic cheesesteak, perfect for weeknight meals or meal prep.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 fat ratio preferred)
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 large bell peppers (green, red, or mixed), diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced
- 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add the diced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for 5-6 minutes until they start to soften and become aromatic.
- Throw in the minced garlic and cook, stirring constantly, for another 30 seconds.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart while it cooks. Season generously with salt and pepper, and cook for about 7-8 minutes until fully browned. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, allowing it to coat the beef mixture. Reduce the heat to low and mix in the softened cream cheese until creamy and melted.
- Transfer the mixture to your prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly. Layer the torn provolone cheese pieces over the beef mixture, then top with the shredded mozzarella.
- Bake for 22-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld.
Notes
For a different twist, try swapping the provolone for gouda or cheddar. You can also use ground turkey instead of beef for a leaner option.
