Description
A hearty and healthy twist on a classic Philly cheesesteak, this low-carb casserole is packed with flavor and easy to prepare.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 fat ratio preferred)
- 1 large onion (diced)
- 2 large bell peppers (diced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 8 oz provolone cheese (sliced)
- 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray.
- Sauté the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and bell peppers, cooking until softened, about 5-6 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic, cooking for an additional 30 seconds while stirring.
- Cook the ground beef in the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula, and season with salt and pepper. Brown for about 7-8 minutes, draining excess fat if necessary.
- Mix in the Worcestershire sauce and softened cream cheese until creamy and well combined.
- Layer the beef mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly. Top with torn provolone and shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for 22-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
- Rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.
Notes
Pair with a crispy side salad or roasted cauliflower for a refreshing contrast. Can also be wrapped in low-carb tortillas.
