Description

A hearty and healthy twist on a classic Philly cheesesteak, this low-carb casserole is packed with flavor and easy to prepare.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 fat ratio preferred)
  • 1 large onion (diced)
  • 2 large bell peppers (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 8 oz provolone cheese (sliced)
  • 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray.
  2. Sauté the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and bell peppers, cooking until softened, about 5-6 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic, cooking for an additional 30 seconds while stirring.
  4. Cook the ground beef in the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula, and season with salt and pepper. Brown for about 7-8 minutes, draining excess fat if necessary.
  5. Mix in the Worcestershire sauce and softened cream cheese until creamy and well combined.
  6. Layer the beef mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly. Top with torn provolone and shredded mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake for 22-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
  8. Rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

Pair with a crispy side salad or roasted cauliflower for a refreshing contrast. Can also be wrapped in low-carb tortillas.
