Description

A simple yet rewarding recipe for artisan-style bread with a crunchy crust and chewy interior, made without kneading.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • ½ teaspoon instant yeast
  • 2 cups warm water (around 100°F or 37°C)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and instant yeast.
  2. Gradually stir in warm water until a shaggy dough forms; it should be moist and a bit sticky.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours.
  4. After the dough has risen, dust a work surface with a bit of flour and carefully scrape the dough out onto it.
  5. Shape the dough into a ball, ensuring it remains a bit sticky.
  6. Transfer the dough onto a floured piece of parchment paper, then cover it and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C), placing a Dutch oven inside to heat for about 30 minutes.
  8. Carefully remove the Dutch oven, and place the dough with the parchment into it.
  9. Cover and bake for 30 minutes.
  10. After that, remove the lid and continue to bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
  11. Let the bread cool before slicing to ensure a perfect texture.

Notes

Experiment with whole wheat flour or add herbs and cheese for flavor variation.
