  • Total Time: 1080 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A simple and flavorful Italian artisan bread with a crackling crust and airy inside, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, salt, and instant yeast in a large mixing bowl until well combined.
  2. Add warm water and stir until a shaggy dough forms; it doesn’t need to be perfectly mixed.
  3. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and let it rise at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a Dutch oven inside to heat up.
  5. Lightly flour a clean surface and gently turn out the dough, shaping it into a ball without overworking.
  6. Transfer the dough onto parchment paper and let it rest for about 30 minutes while the oven heats.
  7. Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven and, using the parchment paper, lift the dough into the pot.
  8. Cover with the lid and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown and crusty.
  10. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

For a chewier texture, feel free to swap all-purpose flour for bread flour. Store at room temperature in a paper bag.
