Old Fashioned Bread Pudding

  • Total Time: 85 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A classic, comforting dessert made with stale French bread and a creamy custard, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups French bread, cubed
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: raisins or nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the cubed French bread to the custard mixture. Stir gently to ensure all the bread is coated. If using raisins or nuts, fold them in carefully.
  4. Pour the mixture into your prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  5. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.
  6. Allow the pudding to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For enhanced flavor, use day-old bread or leftover croissants. It can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
