  • Total Time: 65 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x
  • Diet: Non-Vegetarian

Description

A warm, hearty breakfast casserole made with sausage, eggs, and cheese that can be prepared the night before.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 loaf of bread, cubed
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned, draining excess fat.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and mustard powder until well combined.
  3. Layer the cubed bread in a greased casserole dish.
  4. Sprinkle the cooked sausage evenly over the bread, followed by a layer of shredded cheese.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over everything, ensuring all the bread cubes are soaked.
  6. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  7. The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake the casserole for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the eggs are set.
  9. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Can be frozen before baking.
