  • Yield: 8 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A creamy and crunchy green bean casserole that brings warmth and nostalgia to your family gatherings. Perfect for holidays or weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups sliced fresh green beans (or frozen)
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 (10 1/4 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 (2 7/8 oz) can French fried onion rings
  • A pinch of salt, pepper, and garlic powder
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese (or mozzarella/dairy-free option)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 baking dish with oil or butter.
  2. In a saucepan, bring the chicken broth to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for about 10 minutes until tender but still crisp.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and mushrooms, sautéing until the onions become translucent.
  4. Drain the green beans and stir them into the skillet with the butter, onions, and mushrooms.
  5. Incorporate the cream of mushroom soup, French fried onions, and seasonings, mixing well.
  6. Transfer the mixture into the greased baking dish.
  7. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes. Then, sprinkle the grated cheese on top and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

For a twist, consider adding garlic powder or fresh herbs. For crunchier topping, mix additional French fried onions with cheese.
