Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk (warmed)
- 1/4 cup butter (melted)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup cream cheese
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- Whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt until combined.
- Heat the milk and butter in a saucepan until warm but not boiling.
- Pour the warm milk mixture into the dry ingredients. Then, add the egg, cocoa powder, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough starts to form.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5-7 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread a layer of butter, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, and roll the dough tightly.
- Cut the rolled dough into pieces and place them in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare the glaze by mixing cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over warm rolls before serving.
