Description

A simple and therapeutic recipe for baking a crusty, golden Rustic French Bread Loaf at home.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 410 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1.5 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 300 milliliters warm water (about 3846 °C)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the active dry yeast, warm water, and sugar. Allow the mixture to rest for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix in half of the flour and the salt. Knead on medium-low speed, gradually adding remaining flour until sticky.
  3. Transfer dough to a floured bowl and cover with a towel. Let rise for 2 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Place risen dough on a floured surface, shape into a ball, dust with flour, and cover with a bowl. Let rise for another 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 220 °C and place a Dutch oven inside to heat for 20 minutes.
  6. Score the dough, transfer it to the Dutch oven, and bake covered for 30 minutes. Remove lid and bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Ensure the internal temperature reaches approximately 99 °C before removing from the oven.
  8. Transfer bread to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For crusty bread, ensure your water is at the right temperature when activating yeast, and cool bread completely on a wire rack before slicing.
