Description

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, then shape into oval patties.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Carefully add patties to the skillet, browning them on both sides, then remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms (if using) and cook until softened.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and bring it to a gentle simmer.
  5. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Slowly stir this into the simmering broth to thicken it to your desired consistency.
  6. Return the patties to the skillet, allowing them to simmer in the gravy until thoroughly cooked, usually about 10 minutes. Serve hot with generous gravy!

Notes

For added flavor, consider searing the patties before adding the gravy. Experiment with different seasonings in the beef mixture.
