  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A creamy, cheesy dish featuring tender caramelized onions mingling with melty Gruyère and cream cheese, baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup cream cheese
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced onions with a pinch of salt, cooking until they’re caramelized and golden brown (approximately 20-25 minutes).
  3. Stir in the balsamic vinegar and let it cook down for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. Combine Gruyère cheese and cream cheese in a mixing bowl until well mixed.
  5. Fold the caramelized onions into the cheese mixture ensuring even distribution.
  6. Spread the mixture evenly into a greased baking dish.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 15-20 minutes or until it’s bubbly and golden on top.
  8. Garnish with fresh thyme before serving, if desired.

Notes

Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Can be frozen, but texture may change upon thawing. Consider adding garlic for extra flavor or experimenting with different cheeses.
