Description

These delicious shrimp balls are a fantastic seafood appetizer, combining the flavors of ginger, garlic, and sesame oil for a crispy, flavorful bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp: Place the peeled and deveined shrimp in a food processor and pulse until coarsely chopped.
  2. Mix ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the chopped shrimp, breadcrumbs, egg, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Stir in cilantro and cornstarch if desired.
  3. Shape the balls: Form the mixture into small balls, about the size of a golf ball.
  4. Heat the oil: In a deep pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat.
  5. Fry the balls: Add the shrimp balls to the hot oil, cooking in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes, turning occasionally. Drain on paper towels.

Notes

Feel free to swap shrimp for crab or fish. Serve with sweet chili sauce or aioli for dipping.
