- 1 lb raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the shrimp: Place the peeled and deveined shrimp in a food processor and pulse until coarsely chopped.
- Mix ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the chopped shrimp, breadcrumbs, egg, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Stir in cilantro and cornstarch if desired.
- Shape the balls: Form the mixture into small balls, about the size of a golf ball.
- Heat the oil: In a deep pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Fry the balls: Add the shrimp balls to the hot oil, cooking in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes, turning occasionally. Drain on paper towels.
Notes
Feel free to swap shrimp for crab or fish. Serve with sweet chili sauce or aioli for dipping.
