Description

A cozy and customizable homemade chai latte recipe that warms you up on chilly days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 bags black tea
  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger (peeled and grated)
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 4 pods cardamom (crushed)
  • 4 cloves
  • 1/4 tsp black peppercorns
  • 2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy alternative)
  • 2 tbsp honey (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the water to a boil.
  2. Add the tea bags, ginger, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, cloves, and black peppercorns to the boiling water.
  3. Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes to infuse the flavors.
  4. Remove from heat and let steep for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. In a separate small saucepan, gently warm the milk over medium heat until just before it bubbles.
  6. Remove the tea bags and strain out the whole spices from the tea mixture using a fine mesh strainer, pouring it into two mugs.
  7. Slowly pour the warmed milk over the tea and froth if desired.
  8. Serve hot and indulge!

Notes

For a frothier latte, use a milk frother or whisk. Garnish with ground cinnamon or nutmeg for an inviting look.
