Description

A delightful and quick dish featuring succulent beef strips marinated to perfection and cooked with savory sauces and fresh ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) beef strips (sirloin or ribeye work best)
  • 2 tbsp (30g) vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp (15g) grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp (15g) soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15g) oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp (30g) soy sauce (for the sauce)
  • 2 tbsp (30g) oyster sauce (for the sauce, optional)
  • 2 tbsp (30g) hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp (30g) rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp (15g) cornstarch (to thicken the sauce)
  • 2 tbsp (30g) vegetable oil (for sautéing onions)
  • 1 large onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), ginger, garlic, and sesame oil.
  2. Marinate the Beef: Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let them sit for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Cook the Onions: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are soft and slightly caramelized, then remove from the pan.
  4. Sear the Beef: In the same pan, pour in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and heat it to high. Add the marinated beef strips and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  5. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine the remaining soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour over the beef and let it simmer until thickened.
  6. Combine & Serve: Add the sautéed onions back into the pan, stirring to blend everything together. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Cut against the grain for more tender beef. Sear at high heat for best results.
