  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Non-Vegetarian

Description

A delightful dish that combines tender beef, caramelized onions, and savory sauces for a quick and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) beef strips (preferably sirloin or ribeye)
  • 6 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (divided)
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 large onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together 3 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp oyster sauce (if using), ginger, garlic, and sesame oil.
  2. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and allow them to sit for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are soft and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from the pan and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, heat 2 tbsp of vegetable oil over high heat. Add the marinated beef strips, stir-frying for 2-3 minutes or until browned.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the remaining 2 tbsp soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch.
  6. Pour this sauce over the beef, allowing it to simmer until thickened.
  7. Add the sautéed onions back into the pan and mix well. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

For even more flavor, marinate the beef for longer or try adding spicy chilies for heat. Enjoy with steamed broccoli or bok choy as a side.
